In March 1945, three new Mark XIX Spitfires arrived at 16 Squadron in Eindhoven. Powered by Rolls-Royce Griffon engines, they were a significant advance on the Merlin- engined Mark XI. One of these was PS853, which survives today, owned by Rolls Royce Heritage Trust. It is painted to match the photograph above and flies at air shows and demonstrations.
